Our base camp is located on Spring Island, the largest of an offshore chain of islands and reefs, at the mouth of Kyuquot Sound. Here, nestled on the edge of a rainforest drenched with moss-covered boughs, you will luxuriate in unexpected outdoor comforts. You will also enjoy skilfully prepared meals using fresh local delicacies such as salmon, halibut, crab and sea asparagus. With advance notice we will gladly look after your special dietary needs.

As much as possible, our base camp blends with the natural surroundings, while providing convenience such as solar power, a library, kitchen, dining area, sauna, and hot showers.

Our guests are accommodated in deluxe privately situated, spacious wall tents furnished with small tables, lamps, and beds with full size pillows and thick foam mattresses. Every tent has a pleasant sitting area where guests can enjoy some quiet personal time if they so desire. West Coast Expeditions is striving to ensure your Spring Island camping experience has five star comforts.

We welcome you to join us on Spring Island and share in the discovery of this unforgettable land and sea environment.

Our guests come from all walks of life and ages. They are healthy and active with an appetite for adventure, the outdoors and learning. While many of our guests have varying degrees of kayaking experience, some have never been in a kayak before.

We delight in introducing people who are completely new to paddling to the wonderful world of kayak exploration.

Camp Facilities Use

When it's not all about kayaking, or when you are an independent adventurer

Our comfortable base camp is an excellent place for family vacations and getaways not necessarily all about kayaking. There are numerous delightful destinations easily reached by vary short morning or afternoon paddles. There are also several trails on Spring Island and many lovely beaches. Tide pools offer fascinating views into a vast array of marine life. The spectacular scenery is inspirational and ever changing.

While most of our guests come to paddle, those who don't, have plenty of other activities to enjoy.

Families with young children

On a space availability basis, families with younger children are welcome to book camp facilities and rent kayaks for a west coast vacation at a pace you and your children will enjoy.

West Coast Expeditions offers base camp support for kayakers and west coast boating enthusiasts of all persuasions. One of our mandates is to provide information about the area and to assist with varying problems that might arise. Even if you just need a hot cup of tea and a place to get warm and dry; if you are in the area you are welcome to drop by.

Our base camp is a warm and friendly place. We also provide all camp amenities, including moorage, meals, and tents for guests who come to the area for the excellent sports fishing.

Kayak Rentals

West Coast Expeditions leases a new fleet of kayaks each season from Kayak Utopia (aka Comox Valley or Campbell River Kayaks) (www.kayakutopia.com) We are thus able to ensure our guests have use of the latest, top of the line kayaks and related equipment.

In partnership with Kayak Utopia, we also rent kayaks and related equipment for day or expedition use on an availability basis. We strongly recommend that independent paddlers considering rental at Spring Island reserve kayaks well in advance.

This option also enables people planning a multi activity adventure in this area to rent kayaks for just the days they will actually be paddling as opposed to the entire period of their west coast vacation.

Wave watching

Another advantage of renting kayaks at Spring Island is the savings in transport time, effort and expense at either end of your trip. Contact us for more information.
